Character Races


The several character races we have selected from the D&D 4e Player’s Manual each have certain characteristics. Note that histories of each race can be found on the Main Page.

Dragonborn
  • Ability Bonus: +2 Strength, +2 Charisma
  • Speed: 6 squares
  • Vision: Normal
  • Languages: Common, Draconic
  • Skill Bonuses: +2 History, +2 Intimidate
  • Dragonborn Fury: +1 racial bonus to attack rolls when bloodied
  • Draconic Heritage: healing surges equal to (1/4 Total HP) + Constitution score
  • Dragon Breath: you can use the “Dragon Breath” racial power.
Dwarves
  • Ability Bonus: +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom
  • Speed: 5 squares
  • Vision: Low-light
  • Languages: Common, Dwarven
  • Skill Bonus: +2 Dungeoneering, +2 Endurance
  • Cast-Iron Stomach: +5 racial bonus to saving throws against poison.
  • Dwarven Resilience: “Second Wind” becomes a minor action instead of a standard action.
  • Dwarven Weapon Proficiency: Natural proficiency with the throwing hammer and the warhammer.
  • Encumbered Speed: No penalty to movement speed using normal armor or carrying a heavy load.
  • Stand Your Ground: “Knock-back” attacks move you one less square (unless desired). Saving throws can be used to avoid “knock-down” attacks.
Eladrin
  • Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence
  • Speed: 6 squares
  • Vision: Normal
  • Languages: Common, Pure Elven
  • Skill Bonus: +2 Arcana, +2 History
  • Eladrin Education: You gain training in one additional skill.
  • Eladrin Weapon Proficiency: Natural proficiency with a longsword.
  • Eladrin Will: You gain +1 racial bonus to will defense and a +5 racial bonus to charm effect saving throws
  • Trance: Full awareness during resting, and resting takes 4 hours instead of 6.
  • Teleport: You can use teleport as an encounter power.
Elf
  • Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom
  • Speed: 7 squares
  • Vision: Low-light
  • Languages: Common, Common Elven
  • Skill Bonus: +2 Nature, +2 Perception
  • Elven Weapon Proficiency: Natural proficiency with longbows and shortbows.
  • Group Awareness: Non-elf allies within 5 squares gain a +1 racial bonus to perception checks
  • Wild Step: Ignore difficult terrain
  • Elven Accuracy: You can use elven accuracy as an encounter power.
Humans
  • Ability Scores: +2 to one ability score of your choice
  • Speed: 6 squares
  • Vision: Normal
  • Languages: Common, choice of one other
  • Skill Bonus: none
  • Bonus At-Will Power
  • Bonus Feat at 1st Level
  • Bonus Skill
  • Human Defense Bonus: +1 to Fortitude, Reflex, and Will defenses.
Tieflings
  • Ability Scores: +2 Charisma, +2 Intelligence
  • Speed: 6 squares
  • Vision: Low-light
  • Languages: Common, Daemonic
  • Skill Bonus: +2 Bluff, +2 Stealth
  • Bloodhunt: You gain +1 racial bonus to attack rolls against bloodied foes.
  • Fire Resistance: You have an innate fire resistance (1/2 level + 5)
  • Infernal Wrath: You can use infernal wrath as an encounter power.

Gnoll – The gnoll are currently being debated as a possible playable race. Check the forum to weigh in with your opinion!
